Overview
For a relaxed way to take in Big Bear's mountain scenery, the Scenic Sky Chair rides at Snow Summit offer an unforgettable experience. The resort operates its chairlifts for sightseers from June through October, carrying riders to the 8,200-foot summit where panoramic views stretch across the entire valley.
The ride up takes about 15 minutes and passes through forests of Jeffrey pine and white fir. At the top, an observation area provides 360-degree views — Big Bear Lake shimmers below, and on clear days the vista extends to the desert floor and distant mountain ranges. It's an ideal spot for photos and a peaceful moment above the treeline.
Tickets include a round-trip ride and typically go on sale each April for the coming season. BBMR Anytime, BBMR Midweek, Snow Valley Anytime, and Ikon / Ikon Base pass holders get free Scenic Sky Chair rides all summer long. Free rides on your birthday, 25% off for military at the window, and group discounts (15+) are also available. The sky chair is accessible to all ages and fitness levels — a great option for families, couples, and anyone who wants summit views without the hike. Combine it with lunch at the summit lodge or a leisurely walk along the ridge trail before riding back down.
